Southwest Bulgaria

The view from the terrace. The horizon is a long wavy calming line of tall mountains. Behind them is Greece on the south and Macedonia on the west. Clean streams and rivers dancing over the meadows. Town filled with oranges and kiwi from the neighbouring two countries. Long pedestrian street with Bulgarian clothes and shoes shops is inviting you to enter the most amazing park.

The Park of Sandanski features lake with Japanese ducks, black and white swans, beautiful magnolia trees, long sandy pathways around pine trees, next to the rocky, gently forest stream.

Not far away with the car is the magnificent waterfall of Sandanska Bistrica mountain river. It starts from the top of the Pirin mountain. It is called Popina Luka (Попина лъка).
The river itself is full big stones, slippery due to green algae that is additionally making the water clean. This river is the drinking water for the town and is full of useful mineral compounds which make this water feel soft, “oily”, like rainwater. It is perfect for the skin and hair.

Sandanski is, as we said, a mountain town 20 km from the border with Greece at the foot of the Pirin mountain. It is located near Blagoevgrad and is known for its hot thermal springs from the Roman period, the remains of which you can see in the town’s center. Basically this part of Bulgaria is like a hidden paradise really worth seeing.

While you enjoy the ride from Sofia, Radio “Veselina” will delight you with a selection of good old Balkan songs, both Bulgarian “chalgi” and Greek, Turkish and Serbian evergreens.
