From a simple perspective of a Serbian mother

Why do I need to accent this “Serbian mother”? Because it is important to acknowledge that I also have had being in a war as a child, being in bad circumstances that a wartime brings and also experiencing bombarding in 1999. I was 9 years old. In Dubai I reacted as a 9 year old child, too, after hearing the familiar “sound coming from the sky”. It is a psychological stress, ptsd or call it as you want. My husband saw and heard it for the first time. He also saw how the ptsd looks like. Childhood traumas cannot be deleted or extinguished like a small fire. It shows up, blows up on a single unexpected pressed button. The only difference now was that fortunately Dubai isn’t Belgrade. Dubai is in UAE- strong, calm, resilient, mindful country. Their mindset is completely different from Balkan mindset and this is fortunate. So, I do not worry about continuous positive future as long as UAE leaders continue leading this country in a way that it remains neutral. Because being under, being someone’s vassal (vazal), being subordinate- will not bring that kind of future.

In Dubai war brought shrapnels from the blown-up missiles and drones, but in Yugoslavia it brought displaced families, famine, torture, mental disorders, lack of essential things, hunger, but most of everything- fear. Mothers’ fear. Fathers’ fear. “I need to find, I need to have, I need, I have to, for the sake of my babies”.

Now that I look at myself in the mirror I can say that I feel more like a ghost than a person. So many children everywhere is tortured, separated, put in concentration camps, like 2 WW never ended, never ended the hate. The absolute Nazi hate is alive more than ever before for the sake of- no one really knows. And what a crazy thing, paradoxical thing it is- who is now the Nazi, who are the fascists now…..terrible. Destroying everything, every trace of Socialism, every trace of independency, every single trace of a real community, country that is facing people not money….”They” (and we all know who is “They”) are collecting funds to beat up the remainings of socialist system and even remaining thoughts of it in every corner of this only livable planet the “Higher force” gave to us, suffocated by the very souls living on it. Leaving the people blind, poor, dependent, lonely and silent so in the future no one will ever even remember how the world should really look and feel like. But, remember Yugoslavia. While you still can.

UAE is not Yugoslavia, UAE is resilient. It is open but not naiive. It is adapting very well to any circumstances and it could be seen and it is currently seen. UAE is like a strong river flowing through any terrain. The most important task now is to hold and withstand. Trust in it’s people- weather they are residents or citizens. Trust and hold them together, don’t let them move away, apart. Keep them. Those who stay-will make UAE even greater. But don’t make them redundant.
