A good leader is one who puts a positive work culture as a top priority. Ask yourself: “Does the environment, atmosphere at your company make the best versions of your employees or do they want to quit fast?”
Culture begins from the top down and is driven by strong, healthy leadership with an emphasis on work-life balance.
If you want your employees to thrive and improve your business, you then need to consistently provide access to the resources your Team needs in order to get their job properly done and overcome any obstacles. You, as a leader, need to establish a strategic solution and work on them, re-model them, and re-invent them. Have your finger on the pulse of how your Team is performing; give support and learn from them in order to help them.
How will you help them? By listening. Have regular transparent communication at team meetings where everyone can openly express their concerns. That is absolutely important. Proactivity, collaboration and teamwork are not just words. Stick to them by the way. Your deeds should be equal to what you are saying and promising. Be clear and transparent as a leader.
Get out from the office to the “action field”. Respond to front-line staff. Trust their judgement that there is a problem that seeks your attention. Develop new approaches to challenging and fixing the problems. Just be out there.
Manager works on behalf of the people working beneath the manager. You as a leader are serving the front-line staff. Your role exists because of them. Don’t forget that. Put that ego aside, gift it to the real purpose.
Don’t try to insire your staff, they already have good intentions, it’s up to you how will you “open” them. What you need to do is to use their influence, their good intentions to help CREATE SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT that will work as a beutiful reservoir of good intentions everyobody will use. EMPOWER staff by trusting their capabilities, creativity, individuality and teamwork.
TEST yourself:
1. Is my staff treated with dignity and respect regardless of their role, position? The housekeeper is as equal as your Dr.
2. Are people given the knowledge, tools, materials, support?
3. Does your staff feel valued, and recognized for their contributions?
4. If your staff works overtime, do you give them free time in case they need it too for their personal matters?
5. Do you know the scope of work of each team member; do you understand their roles?
