Cities cannot fight pollution without the Green

Land down to one of the most curious, intriguing, fascinating cities with vast historical gems to visit. Again, we have just a couple of hours to use to see the old Shanghai part- Nanshi. To get there we used a practical and superb Hop on-Hop off the bus with an open roof to admire the Chinese beautiful green city of Shanghai, a great mixture of old and new.

Stationed on the famous  Yangtze River, Shanghai is one of the biggest world seaports and the most important industrial and commercial center of big China. In the very center of the city is the old part Nanshi which is famous for the Yu Garden, full of pavilions, beautiful koi fish lakes, a Tea House, bridges, archways, a bazaar with silk clothes, jewelry, woodwork, etc.

It can get very crowded with tourists in this 400-year-old garden, but it’s a scenic walk in history that you cannot get elsewhere. The Garden is established in 1559 by Pan Yunduan in Ming Dynasty. “Yu” means peace and comfort and Pan Yunduan wanted just that for his old father to help him relax in this garden. And if you want to experience the true intention of the garden, visit it at 8:30am when it opens so you can avoid the bustling crowds.

Lovely, isn’t it, the Yu garden

The most expensive tea you will probably ever take- will be the Longjing tea served from the purple clay found only in this area and province that belongs to Yixing pottery.
If interested in the pottery, read more about it here-https://www.christies.com/features/A-guide-to-Yixing-teapots-9709-3.aspx

walking around

Yu or Yuyuan Garden is an oasis of traditional Chinese culture in the huge city. Don’t forget to check Pearl City market which is close by, too!

Another attraction we spotted was Oriental Pearl TV Tower which is 468 m high and was completed in 1994. The tower holds a Revolving restaurant which is the 2nd highest revolving restaurant in all of Asia and just imagine the view from it.
