Down the Horizon

An archipelagic state known for dreamy beach weddings, Mahe, giant Aldabra tortoises, and pirates!

Mahe is the largest island where Morne Seychellois National Park lays, as well as the national airport. Like Mauritius, Seychelles also has its own endemic plants, like Medusagyne oppositifolia (the jellyfish tree), Nepenthes pervillei, and unique species of orchids.

Seychelles is (much) more expensive and urbanized than the “fellow” Mauritius, an island that is much wilder in natural spirit I would say. But what I really like about these island countries is their way of life and behavior. People are so uncomplicated and truly themselves. There is nothing fake about them- when they are mad- it is shown, or happy- they laugh hard. Tourism doesn’t affect their nature and mentality like in our countries. Native people have remained true to their multiethnicity, and traditions. And we, tourists, should not only soak on the beach and make photos for instagram, but wake up, be present and observe, learn and adopt.
